Janice Pape Thiese

Janice Pape Thiese and her family invite friends and relatives to join them at an open house Saturday, Nov. 24, to celebrate Janice’s 90^th birthday.

The celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Guttenberg Municipal Building, 502 S. 1^st Street in Guttenberg.

A card shower is also being held in conjunction with the event.

Walter and LaVon Germann

The children of Walter and LaVon Germann wish to honor their parents on their 60th anniversary with a card shower.

 Walter Germann and LaVon Kurth were married October 22, 1958.

 They are the parents of four children, Lynn (Brian) Monroe, Jeff Germann (special friend Bridget), Karen (Gary) Crawford and their son, Kevin who is with them in spirit.

Bobbi Ney and Kevin Vierow were married Saturday, Sept. 1, at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian. The Rt. Rev. Terry Landsgaard officiated at the 3:30 p.m. ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Dennis and Rosie Ney of West Union and Rick and Kathy Vierow of Fayette.

Wearing a long, sleeveless, trumpet-style ivory gown featuring a beaded bodice and lace overlay, the bride was escorted down the aisle by her father. She carried a bouquet of burgundy and deep orange flowers accented with greenery.

Attending her as the matron of honor was her friend Whitney Wells of Waverly. Bridesmaids were Randee Winter, friend of the bride, of Waucoma; Kariann Elsbernd, cousin of the bride, of Elgin; and Molly Vierow, sister of the groom, of Fayette.

The flower girl was Zoey Gerleman.

Gloria Sue Schatz

Gloria Sue Schatz of West Union will celebrate her 85^th birthday on Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Her family would like to invite all friends, neighbors and relatives to help Sue celebrate by joining in a card shower for her.

Sue and her late husband, Ken, are the parents of three daughters, Robin (Kermit) Solheim of Cedar Rapids, Vicki (Rory) Starks of West Union, and Debra (Steve) Wilson of Swisher. Sue’s family also includes seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Steve and Skip Huinker of Calmar will celebrate their 50^th wedding anniversary on Friday, Oct. 12.  

In addition to celebrating with a family gathering at the White House Supper Club in St. Lucas, the couple will also be honored with a card shower.

Steve Huinker and Skip Koshatka were married on Oct. 12, 1968, at Assumption Catholic Church in Ossian.

Syvilla Hewitt

Please join Syvilla Hewitt as she celebrates her 90^th birthday with an open house from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Fredericksburg City Hall.

A lifelong resident of Fredericksburg, Syvilla was born Oct. 3, 1928. 

She married Robert Hewitt on Dec. 24, 1947.  

They are the parents of three children, Alan (Judi) Hewitt of Tulsa, Okla., Shelly (Kelly) Hewitt Baier of Cedar Rapids, and Gary (Julia) Hewitt of Waukesha, Wis., and have five grandchildren as well as four great-grandchildren.

Syvilla and her family hope that friends and relatives can join them for cake and ice cream and say hello once again.

Jenna Svendsen

John and Joann Svendsen of St. Lucas would like to announce the birth of their daughter, Jenna Maxine, born at 11:59 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018. 

She weighed 7 lbs. and 10 oz. and was 19 inches long.

Jenna was welcomed home by her big brother, John.

Jenna's grandparents are Dennis Boyer of St. Lucas and the late Maxine Boyer and David and Vicky Svendsen of Castalia. 

Her great-grandfather is Victor Szabo of Castalia. 

Mr. and Mrs. Justin Harford

Courtney Ann Wirtz and Justin Ray Harford of West Union were united in marriage Saturday, Sept. 1, at Fredsville Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Lisa Dietrich.

Courtney is the daughter of Kathy and Kraig Kroemer of Cedar Falls and Tracy Wirtz of Maynard. 

Justin is the son of Raymond Harford of West Union and the late Marian Harford.

Mr. and Mrs. Zachary Soukup

Erica Dyke and Zachary Soukup exchanged marriage vows on Saturday, Sept. 8. The 3 p.m. outdoor ceremony was held overlooking the lake at Volga River Recreation Area, rural Fayette. Pastor Tom Buresh officiated.

Parents of the couple are Britt and Lisa Dyke of West Union and Doug and Betty Soukup of Spillville.
