Lois Underdahl of West Union will be the guest of honor at an open house celebrating her 90th birthday.

Hosted by her family, the reception will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at West Union United Methodist Church, 301 Hansen Blvd.

All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

Born Dec 11, 1925, Lois grew up in the Oelwein area, then resided near Hawkeye most of her life.

Lois was married to Clifford Underdahl, now deceased.  She is mother to three children, Tim, Sandy (Martin), and Rod. She has eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Arthur and Agnes Schmitt of West Union will celebrate 65 years of marriage, along with Agnes’ 88th birthday, on Friday, Nov. 27. A family gathering will be held in honor of both occasions.

Arthur Schmitt and Agnes Riha were married Nov. 27, 1950, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson.

They are the parents of four daughters, Terri (Cal) Drew, Marie (Chuck) Riha, Irene (Tom) Frantzen, and Wilma (Robert) Meyer. The Schmitts also have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Arthur and Agnes farmed for many years in the St. Lucas area and now make their home at Traditions of West Union.

Sarah Boyer and Jacob Palmer exchanged marriage vows in a 2 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 24. Their wedding was held at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union with the Rev. Jim Brokman as the celebrant.

Parents of the couple are Ron and Donna Boyer of Hawkeye and Clyde and Sue Palmer of Earlville.

DeWayne and Holly (Cranston) Gefaller of Hawkeye were married Nov. 20, 1965, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins.

They will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a family dinner in Dubuque.

The couple have two children, Todd of Iowa City and Trent (Jennifer) of Oelwein, as well as two granddaughters.

Don (Andy) and Audrey Vagts of West Union will celebrate 60 years of marriage on Thursday, Nov. 27.  Their family invites friends and relatives to join in a card shower to congratulate the couple.

Andy and Audrey were married Nov. 27, 1955, at First Lutheran Church of rural Ossian. 

They are the parents of Mark (Joan) Vagts of West Union, Marcia (Hoss) Foadian of Norton, Mass., and Marlys (Chuck) Bushman of Clermont.  Their family also includes 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family of Dixie Hennig invites friends and relatives to shower Dixie with cards or notes sharing memories in celebration of her upcoming 80th birthday.

Dixie was born Nov. 27, 1935, in Aberdeen, S.D.

She has devoted her first 80 years to the service and care of others, including as a longtime employee and volunteer at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, as a Hospice volunteer, and as a member of First Methodist Church in Fayette.

Dixie’s family includes eight children, Carolyn (Terry) Kiser of Cedar Rapids, Sandy (Dick Hogan) Moses of Central City, Larry Hennig of Orange Park, Fla., Nancy Gerson of Peachtree City, Ga., Ed (Kathy) Traeger III of Readlyn, Brenda (Chris) Kelly of Marion, Barbi (Randy) Holub of Robins, and Keith (Mary) Hennig of Evansville, Wis.; 28 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Dean and Judy Zupke will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, followed by a dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Sumner.

Dean Zupke and Judy Puls were married Nov. 21, 1965, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Richfield.

Hosting the open house celebration will be the couple’s family, which includes their three children, Krystal (Daryl) Erickson of Mason City, Brad (Daphne) Zupke of Sumner, and Nena (Mark) Winter of Hawkeye, and seven grandchildren.

Hosted by her family, the reception will be from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM  on November 7, at the Central State Bank community building located at 200 N. Main St. Elkader, Iowa. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.
Born Nov. 3, 1935, she grew up on a farm near Guttenberg. She has lived in Clayton County her entire life.
She  married Harvey (deceased) and had four sons. Rodney, Kurt, Jeff and Andrew Kuehl will be hosting the event along with other family members.

Jodi and Dustin Egeland of Ossian are happy to announce the birth of their son, Hudson Buck Egeland, on September 1, 2015, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He weighed 9 lbs., 15 ounces and measured 23 inches in length at the time of birth.

Gradparents are Jeff and Penny Sweeney of Waukon and Roger and Joan Egeland of Ossian. Great-grandparents are Audrey and the late Buck Ranzeberger of Caledonia, Minn., the late Ray and Monica Sweeney, Don and Marilyn Egeland of Ossian, and Lucille and the late Cletus Holthaus of Ossian.
