Bishops to celebrate 60^th anniversary

Lois Bergan and Lew Bishop were married Oct. 9, 1955, and are sharing the celebration of their 60^th wedding anniversary with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Masonic Lodge in downtown West Union.

Lew and Lois look forward to seeing professional associates, relatives, and friends as they celebrate this special occasion.

Anniversary open house

An open house is being held Saturday, Aug. 1, in honor of Robert and Judith Alford’s 50^th wedding anniversary.

The celebration is being held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Bob and Judy’s home at 1608 134^th Ave., Castalia, IA 52133. 

All are invited to attend, but the couple request no gifts, please.

Mr. and Mrs. David Solheim

David and Linda Solheim of Clermont celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary on April 3.  

In honor of the occasion, their children are encouraging friends to send cards to the couple at 409 Union St., Clermont, IA 52135. A family gathering is also being planned.

David Solheim and Linda Krueger were married in 1965 at First Baptist Church in Elgin.

They have four children, Layne (Stacey) Solheim of Littleton, Colo., Derek (Heidi) Solheim of Waverly, Heidi (Jared) Phillips of St. Peter, Minn., and Holly (Andrew) Whitcomb of Omaha, Neb. The Solheims also have seven grandchildren.

Laura Corbin

Laura Corbin of Maple Crest Manor in Fayette will celebrate her 98^th birthday on Aug. 2. Laura formerly lived in the Wadena and Arlington area.

Robert Alford and Judith Skarecky were married Oct. 3, 1964, in Cary, Ill.

They are the parents of Tod A. Alford (deceased) and Dawn M. (Jim) Eaton of Winfield, Ill. The Alfords also have four grandchildren.

In celebration of Gary and Robin (Shreve) Wurster's 40^th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 2, their children would like to honor them with a card shower.

Mr. and Mrs. Lucas Schmitt

Kaitlyn Peterson and Lucas Schmitt of Hawkeye exchanged wedding vows in a 4 p.m. ceremony on June 27. The Rev. Sharon Huber officiated. The wedding was held at Hutchinson Family Farm Campground in Decorah.

Parents of the couple are Jon and Lori Peterson of Peterson, Minn., and Steve and Connie Schmitt of Hawkeye.

Dr. and Mrs. Lew Bishop

Lois Bergan and Lew Bishop were married Oct. 9, 1955, and are sharing the celebration of their 60^th wedding anniversary with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Masonic Lodge in downtown West Union.

The couple’s son, Lawrence (Camila) Bishop, of Karlskoga, Sweden; grandson, Jarrett (Lili), of Stockholm, Sweden; and granddaughter, Basia, of Madison, Wis., are hosting the event. 

Dr. Bishop is currently licensed and has practiced the profession of audiology and speech pathology for 55 years. Together, he and Lois founded and have maintained a private practice for 40 years, delivering services in a 60-mile radius to patients’ homes, nursing homes, and hospitals. Dr. Bishop assisted Dr. Larry Severeid, ENT physician and surgeon, at Gundersen Clinic in West Union for 22 years. 

Vera Kriener

Vera (Hageman) Kriener will celebrate her 85^th birthday on Tuesday, July 28.

In honor of the occasion, there will be a Mass of Celebration at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma.  

In addition, Vera’s family is hosting a card shower in her honor.
