The South Winneshiek boys’ and girls’ track and field teams traveled south to Des Moines last week to compete in the 2019 State Track and Field Meet on the Blue Oval of Drake Stadium.
The Warrior boys were led by junior Noah Tieskoetter who placed 10th in the long jump with a distance of 20’04”. Senior Paul Hageman also placed high in the 3200, taking 12th. In an odd event, there were no official times for the race because of an incorrectly fired gun that came a lap earlier than the actual final lap.
Other Warriors to compete included the 14th place 4x100 team of Zach Taylor, Cael Kuboushek, Noah Tieskoetter, and Jacob Herold. The group finished in 44.94. Seth Greve placed 22nd in the discus (122’08”) and Jaron Todd placed 23rd in the high jump (5’07”).
For the Warrior girls, senior sprinter Ellie Loesch led the way with a pair of top-five finishes at State. The speedster placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.10) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (26.85). Her efforts helped the Warrior girls score nine points, placing them 30th among the Class 1A girls.
