Fayette County Fair Board President Kevin Converse said he and the other fair board members are reasonably confident, that if regulations allow, there will at least be 4-H and FFA shows this summer for the Fayette County Fair.

“We hope to make a decision on whether we will have grandstand events some time the first part of June,” Converse said. The fair is scheduled from July 21-25.

“Gardens are a small but impactful way to talk about where our food comes from, as well as a way to develop relationships between garden and food enthusiasts,” smiled Laura Weidemann.

For Weidemann, gardening has been something she has been interested in for some time.

“My mom and I have grown squash, zucchini, butternut squash, peppers, and tomatoes in our backyard since I was in middle school,” grinned the West Union native, adding that her love for gardening grew once she started college at Viterbo University in LaCrosse.

“My interest in gardening grew when I joined Enactus, a business and service-oriented club at Viterbo University, to help rebuild their garden,” said Weidemann. “We invited groups like the Boys and Girls Club to teach them about growing food.”

It wasn’t long before Weidemann decided this was something she wanted to bring to her own community here in Iowa.
