Berdena M. Hoepfner, 95, of Hawkeye, died Sunday, June 20, 2021, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Ron Roberts officiating. Burial followed at Wilson Grove Cemetery, rural Sumner. Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the Church on Thursday. Berdena Marie, daughter of August and Anna (Brandt) Westendorf was born January 21, 1926, at home, Buck Creek, rural Sumner. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Buck Creek rural Sumner. Berdena received her education at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Buck Creek Parochial School. On October 7, 1947, she was united in marriage with Lester Hoepfner at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Buck Creek. The couple farmed in the Hawkeye area, prior to retiring in 1979. They moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1991. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, where she served on the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school. Berdena enjoyed hosting people at her home, whether it be family or friends, always making sure they had a good meal and enjoyed themselves.

Berdena is survived by her children, James (Deborah) Hoepfner of Stoddard, Wisconsin, Lynette Hanken of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Dennis (Jodi) Hoepfner of La Crosse, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Sara Hanken, Luke Hoepfner, Kristin (Colin) Rieke, Ryan Hoepfner, Greg (Trisha) Hoepfner, and Carrie (Ben) Plourd ; five great-grandchildren, Grace, Chloe, Roman, and Bella Rieke, and Henley Plourd.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester on February 12, 1997; and siblings, Esther Buhr, Lydia Judisch, and Leo Westendorf.
