Grant Seitz

Grant Seitz

 

Grant Wayne Seitz, 35, of West Union passed away at his home on Sunday, May 22, 2022, after a courageous two year battle with colon and bile duct cancer. Grant was given another 396 days of life when he received a liver transplant on April 21, 2021, and he made the most of each one of those days with family and friends. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m, Friday, May 27, 2022, at the West Union Event Center with Rev. Rusty Phillips officiating.

     Dean Harris 79, of Webster City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. 

  Dean LeRoy Harris, son of Clyde and Wanda (Phipps) Harris, was born on October 6, 1942 and he had the pleasure of leaving an unforgettable mark on the lives of those around him ever since. Dean graduated from Boone High School and later united in marriage to Carol Ann Moore on June 7, 1964 in Volga, IA. Though the couple later divorced, Dean was still happily present within the lives of Carol and his children. 

  Dean’s job holdings consisted of working for the Iowa Department of Transportation and United Co-Op in Webster City. He also held positions as a Boone County employee and Standard Oil Independent Distributor.

John Michael Bennett, 78, of Clermont, Iowa died Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at his home. John was born on September 30, 1943 to Ralph and Dolores (Houser) Bennett in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Valley High School in 1962.

Jennie Belle Birdsell, 84, of Ossian, Iowa died Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa. There will be a two hour visitation before services at the church on Saturday.

Inurnment will follow at Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery in Ossian, Iowa.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kenny Amdahl’s journey began on March 7, 1953, in West Union, Iowa with parents Ervie Sidney Amdahl and Lucille Yvonne Gress, growing up with siblings, Raymond and Connie Amdahl.  

His life path included serving in the United States Army, developing many lifetime friends.  He then met his lifetime partner Carolyn Mohring in 1979.   Given in marriage on December 5, 1981 and joined as one from then on, both enlisted in the United States Marine Corps two days later December 7, 1981.  Making them the first married couple from the state of Iowa to serve in the armed forces.

His life included many valleys, but he lived his life always defined by his joys, beginning with his boys, Steven and Bradley Amdahl.  His family grew, welcoming his girls, Nancie (Pate) Amdahl and Courtney (Mulligan) Amdahl with his love.    As his love had no bounds, cherishing five grandchildren Landon, Leah, Carter, Lawson, and Ruby Amdahl.

William “Bill” LeRoy Butikofer, age 90, “graduated” from this life into eternity on May 11, 2022, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, IL. Bill was born to Marie (Schupbach) and Albert Butikofer, Sr. of Elgin, Iowa, on July 11, 1931.

Bill is survived by his wife, Norma of Gridley, IL; two daughters, Julie (Dennis) Krugger, El Paso, IL, Joni (Roger) Loftsgard, Clermont, IA; and two sons, Mark (Kaylene) and John (Jill), both of Gridley.  He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Jeremy Loftsgard, Joey (Crystal) Loftsgard, Christopher (Emily) Krugger, Benjamin (Sunita) Krugger, Marci Oncken, Katrina (Doug) Opperman, Jacqui Butikofer, Kristin Upton, Kayla (Justin) Samples, Kelley Butikofer, Whitney Waldschmidt, Nicole (Matthew) Gosling, Sydney Butikofer, Douglas (Tami) Schupbach; twenty-one great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); one brother, Paul, Elgin, IA; and one sister, Shirley Nester, of Lester, IA.

A.W. Martin, 95, of Fayette, died Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Fayette with Rev. Jim Dale officiating. Graveside service with military rites will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Lima Cemetery, rural Wadena. Visitation will precede services at the Church on Sunday starting at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in A.W.’s name to the Salvation Army or a charity of the donor’s choice. Gus Kapnisis, 69, owner and operator of Gus and Tony’s Town House restaurant in West Union, Iowa, died Monday, May 9, 2022, at his home in West Union.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Union. Visitation continued at the church for a half-hour before services on Monday.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Mason City, Iowa, with Father Nichalas March officiating.

Burial took place at 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, at West Union Cemetery.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union assisted the family with arrangements.

Konstantinos “Gus” Kapnisis was born March 16, 1953, to Spiros and Panagiota (Fotopoulou) Kapnisis in Lasteika-Ilias, Greece. He attended school in Lasteika-Ilias, later studying mechanics at a technical school.

Lloyd Bernard (Scorch) Pattison died peacefully at home in Fayette, surrounded by his family, on May 5, 2022. Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM, Monday, May 9, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Fayette with Rev. Mike Jager officiating. Burial followed at Grandview Cemetery with military rites provided by American Legion Post #339 of Fayette. Visitation was  held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 8th at the First United Methodist Church in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the Church on Monday. Lee E. Priebe, 84, of Hawkeye, died Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at the Alpha United Methodist Church with Mona Christie, Lay Speaker officiating. Burial followed at the Alpha Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 9, at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the Church on Tuesday.
