Ronald Peters

 

Ronald D. Peters, age 62, of Copperas Cove passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, in Killeen. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116, Copperas Cove, TX with inurnment at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Ron was born on January 21, 1959, in West Union, Iowa to William and Gladys (Pape) Peters. He graduated in 1977 from Valley High School in Elgin, Iowa where he played football.

After high school, Ron joined the United States Army in 1978. He served during Desert Storm and Desert Shield for a total of 15 years of service. While serving in Hawaii, he met Debbie Greaves and they married on August 25, 1979, at the Lutheran Church in Ewa Beach in Hawaii.

Joyce I. Amber, 78, of Oelwein, Iowa, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, October 16, 2021, surrounded by her family at MercyOne Oelwein Senior Care in Oelwein. 

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2021, and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein. Rosary Service: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Parish Scripture Service: 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment: At Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Forrest Wayne Monroe, 90, of Guttenberg, Iowa died Friday, October 15, 2021 at his home in Guttenberg, Iowa. Forrest was born January 24, 1931 to Albert and Mari (Land) Monroe in Communia, Iowa. He attended country school and Postville High School. Forrest proudly joined and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

On August 19, 1951, Forrest was united in marriage with JoAnn Lauer at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa. Six children were born to this union. Forrest farmed in the Luana area, worked as a Mechanic for John Deere for many years and was a Property Manager for Rydell Farms for over twenty years.

Allen Gene Tupper, 94, of West Union died on October 14, 2021, at Stoney Brook Assisted Living with his family at his side. Allen was born on September 21, 1927, in Auburn to Leo and Pearl (Johnston) Tupper. He attended country school in Auburn, leaving high school to farm with his father. Allen served his country in the United States Army from 1945-1947. He was part of a traveling local baseball team when he was in his early twenties.

Iris Dolores Willsey Woodard, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021. She was born May 6, 1928, in Brough, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Dora and James Willsey.  In the fall of 1936, the family moved to Ontario where they farmed fourteen miles from the town of Rainy River. They raised saddle horses and Shetland ponies.  In 1939 the Willseys moved back to the United States.

Donald Bernard Sutter, 84, of Elgin, Iowa died Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, Iowa. Donald Bernard was born December 7, 1935 to Daniel and Hulda (Friederich) Sutter in rural Elgin, Iowa. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1953. Donald proudly joined and served in the United States Air Force from July 20, 1953 to June 25, 1957.

Donald was united in marriage with Marliana Ogle on August 3, 1958 at Illyria Community Church, rural Elgin, Iowa. Two children were born to this union. Don worked for Fauser Oil Company from 1957-1978 when he purchased the gas station. He owned and operated Don’s 66 in Elgin, Iowa from 1978-1999. For the last twenty years, Don was a loyal employee of Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Robert J. Dzaboff, 79, of West Union, Iowa, died Thursday morning, October 14, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa.

Funeral Service:10:30 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2021, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, with Rev. Roland Waterman officiating.

Visitation:3:00 to 6:00 p.m.. on Sunday and for one hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Interment:  Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington, Iowa.

Linda Sue Schissel, 69, of Ossian, Iowa died Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.  Linda Sue was born February 15, 1952 to Paul and Cleo Mae (Hosper) Gerlich in Decorah, Iowa. She graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1970 and attended Area One Cosmetology College in 1971.

Linda was united in marriage to Tom Schissel on November 27, 1971 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. Linda was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and Rosary Society, was a 4-H Leader for several years and was on the Winneshiek County Pork Producer Board. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to dinner with the ladies, baking cookies, tending to her flowers, doing jigsaw puzzles, sewing and quilting. Linda loved to visit with friends.

Kenneth Strong, 85, of Elgin, Iowa died Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Stoney Brook Village, West Union, Iowa. Kenneth Wilbert was born February 12, 1936 to L. Harold and Zella Mabel (King) Strong in rural Fayette County, Iowa. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of Illyria Community Church. He graduated from West Union High School in 1954. Kenny joined and served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.

Yvonne G. Copp, 90, of Hawkeye, died Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Stoney Brook Village in West Union. 

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Ron Roberts officiating. Inurnment followed at the Hawkeye Cemetery. Visitation was held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church and for one-hour preceding services at the Church on Friday.
