Cynthia Durscher

Cynthia (Cindy) Lea Durscher, 63, of West Union passed away October 6th, 2021 at her home. Cindy was born August 7, 1958 in New Hampton to Dick and Marge Smith. Cindy graduated from Fayette High School in 1976 and attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri.  For years she worked at Norby’s in West Union, Iowa.  

  Cindy enjoyed going to Packers and Yankees games with Steve. She was a huge fan (or at least Steve convinced her she was!).  She also enjoyed going to numerous concerts, spending time with Aubree, traveling, the most recent trip was to Duluth, Minnesota. Steve and Cindy spent many hours playing cribbage, where it was very rare when Cindy did not win.

Irma Eileen Osmundson, 84, of West Union, Iowa died Sunday, September 26, 2021 in her home. She was born February 22, 1937 to Irvin and Evanna (Schweinefus) Anfinson at home in rural Ossian, Iowa. She graduated from Ossian High School in 1954. On September 14, 1958, Irma was united in marriage to Gordon Osmundson at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian. They lived in the Ossian and West Union areas throughout their entire marriage, and three children were born to the couple. Gordon passed away on October 26, 2000.

Joan Schissel age 89, of Ossian, Iowa died on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA. A mass of Christian Burial was held at the St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021 with Rev. Robert Gross as the clergy. Interment was in the St. Francis De Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.

Philip Kruse age 90 of Waucoma, IA, died Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, IA.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas, IA, with Rev. Nick Radloff celebrating the Mass. Interment with military honors was in the church cemetery.Friends greeted the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas, IA. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday,

Barbara Jane (Fritz) Welsh, 73, passed away after a short illness at the Pearl Valley Rehabilitation Center in Esterville, Iowa while in Hospice Care. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters.

A private family service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at Westgate, Iowa on Saturday, October 9, 2021.

A celebration of Life will follow the burial at 1:00 p.m. This is open to family and friends where a meal will be served. The Place is at the Westgate Community Club, north side of the Fire Department. Come and share your memories of her. 39p39

Mary Ellen Guyer, 72, of rural Clermont, Iowa died Monday, September 20, 2021 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born October 3, 1948 to LaVerne and Bess (Nelson) Palas in West Union, Iowa. She graduated from North High School in 1966 and attended Hawkeye Community College.

On May 25, 1968 Mary was united in marriage with Ronald Guyer. She enjoyed spending time with family, playing and caring for her dog, Lucy and her barn kitties. She was a skilled garage sale treasure hunter. Mary’s greatest joys were her family and supporting her granddaughters, Sarah and Kaitlin, in all of their activities. Mary cared for all of her skilled care patients at Gunderson Palmer Lutheran Hospital and Clinics, where she worked for thirty-three years.

Mary is survived by her husband, Ron Guyer; son, Tim (Shannon) Guyer; granddaughters, Sarah and Kaitlin Guyer; brother, David (Marcia) Palas; and many special nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial for Aileen Stavnes, 99, was held on Thursday, September 16th, 2021 at Holy Cross Church in Timber Lake, SD.  Father Brian Lane officiated.  Burial was in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Aileen, 99, of Mobridge, formerly of Timber Lake, went home to be with the Lord on September 10th, 2021.  Aileen left us just five short days after celebrating her joyful birthday. 

Aileen Ann (Brockamp) Stavnes was born to Frank and Margaret (Hanken) Brockamp on September 5, 1922 in Timber Lake, SD.  In 1932, the family moved to Ossian, IA.  Aileen graduated from St. Francis de Sales in June 1941.  After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator with Northwestern Bell.

Sheryl M. Cue, 68, of rural Fayette, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 17, 2021, at MercyOne-Oelwein Senior Care with family by her side.

Her funeral Service was held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2021 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with Deacon Michal Schemmel officiating. Visitation was held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A Private family graveside service followed with the final resting place being at the  Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa.

Duane Arthur Jellings, 89, of West Union, Iowa went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 13, 2021. He was born October 25, 1931 in Wadena, Iowa to Arthur and Erna Jellings. He was baptized and confirmed on April 23, 1950. Duane attended a one room school house through eighth grade, then graduated from Wadena High School in 1949. He spent one year at Upper Iowa University. Duane was a baseball pitcher in high school and continued to love the game all his life. He was an avid Cardinal fan, while his wife, Darlene loved the Cubs. This made for a fun rivalry throughout the years.
